INVEST in America Act

On July 1, 2021 the House passed the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America Act). The surface reauthorization bill includes $547 billion over five years.  

Included in this legislation:

  • $343 billion in roads, bridges and safety

    • $13 billion for Projects of National and Regional Significance (rebranded INFRA grant program)

    • $4 billion for clean corridors (electric vehicle charging and hydrogen fueling)

    • $560 million for ferry boats and terminals

    • $1 billion for active transportation grants

  • $109 billion in transit

    • $11 billion in bus and bus facilities

      • $4 billion for zero-emission buses

  • $95 billion in passenger and freight rail

    • $32 billion for Amtrak’s national network and North East Corridor

    • $25 billion in high-speed rail and intercity passenger rail grants (PRIME)

    • $25 billion for bridges, stations and tunnels

    • $2.5 billion for grade-crossing separations
