Prioritization P6 Update
Over the last few years the NCDOT was experiencing rising costs of projects that were programmed into the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Cost increases were caused by a variety of factors including increases in construction costs, property, supplies, and contractor/consultant rates. After identifying the issue, the NCDOT implemented a review of over 450 projects in the STIP and updated over 1,000 individual estimates. These cost increases will mean adjustments to the 2024-2033 STIP. The STIP is a planning document, not a fiscal document, therefore this does not jeopardize the NCDOT’s financial standing. The NCDOT is working with MPO/RPOs across the state as adjustments take place. Due to the cost increases, the Prioritization Workgroup recommended to the Board of Transportation that the next prioritization cycle (P6) be halted at this time, and the Board has agreed. The Workgroup will continue evaluating possible solutions on how best to move forward.
