RISE Eastern Carolina Draft Vulnerability Assessment
From the NCORR Resilience Team:
The Regions Innovating for Strong Economies and Environment (RISE) Regional Resilience Portfolio Program in the Eastern Carolina region has held six stakeholder partnership meetings and one public workshop. From these meetings, RISE is supporting the development of a regional vulnerability assessment for Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico and Wayne counties and a portfolio of proposed priority resilience projects that have regional benefit.
A draft Climate Change and Natural Hazards Vulnerability Assessment for the Eastern Carolina Region is ready for public review and comments. Please provide feedback that may enhance the report findings and ensure that they are an accurate representation of your community and region. Learn more about the assessment and how to give input below.
As a reminder, the RISE project regions are defined by state council of governments geographies, and the Eastern Carolina Council of Governments is our partner on this effort. Tetra Tech is providing technical assistance for RISE in Eastern Carolina.
The vulnerability assessment is a report describing the problems the Eastern Carolina region has experienced in the past and the risks it faces in the future due to climate change. These hazards include hurricanes, flooding, wind damage, extreme temperatures and even droughts and wildfires. The report describes the specific impacts of these extreme weather events on housing, the environment and the economy. Read it now.
Your input can help strengthen the draft vulnerability assessment for the Eastern Carolina region! You may have input on weather- or climate-related impacts that are missing from the draft report, such as specific locations that flood frequently. Or you may have insights about how to sharpen the report findings and ensure that they accurately reflect your community and region. NCORR encourages residents and organizations to review the report and share feedback by Wednesday, Aug. 17 through this online comment form. Feedback may also be submitted by email to resilience@ncdps.gov with the subject line Eastern Carolina Vulnerability Assessment.
